Thanks to Bill and Ed, I am now “blog-able”.  Thanks to all who have helped to set this Network up.  I am looking forward to working with our Eagle Scouts and hopefully continue a fine, quality Scouting program in Northeast Mississippi.

Lunch at Camp Yocona (letter from Brian Steger)

TO: EAGLE SCOUT NETWORK MEMBERS

FROM: BRIAN STEGER, SCOUT EXECUTIVE

RE: LUNCH AT CAMP YOCONA

By now several of you have already heard about, and responded to, an invitation from me and the Yocona Area Council to visit Camp Yocona on Saturday, May 5. Please consider this your invitation to join me and several others for lunch that day, around 12:00 noon, in the newly remodeled Tippah Dining Hall.

We do ask that you RSVP to either the Scout Service Center at 662-842-2871 or by email to bsteger@bsamail.org. Lunch is on the Council, but any donations will be accepted. Please know though, there is no cost to attend except to RSVP.

That day is also the Council’s “Beaver Day”, which is a work day where volunteers come help prepare Camp for the upcoming summer season. You are certainly invited to participate (Beaver Day hours are between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm – however many hours you can help depend on your schedule) or just come out for lunch.

Although we haven’t discussed any “guided tours” around camp, you are welcome to stroll about the property. If you haven’t been to camp in a few years, you will be both surprised and impressed.

We will have a brief program during or perhaps just after our luncheon in the Administration Building. Topics include how you may become “re-involved” in Scouting in your community and what other projects can be considered for any of you who have interests to participate further.

Please know that this is more of a social event than any thing else. I hope you will come and be a part of what might become a regular meeting of Yocona Area Council Eagle Scout Network Members. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at the Scout Service Center, 662-842-2871.

May 5 Luncheon

Just wanted to assure you all that we are planning a luncheon for all of those registered on this Network.

This luncheon will be on Saturday, May 5th, at beautiful Camp Yocona.

May 5 is the Camp’s “Beaver Day”. This is a volunteer led effort where local volunteers and Scouts come to camp and help the Ranger get Camp ready for the summer sessions.

You’re welcome to work (we start at 9:00 am and try to finish by 3:00 pm), or just come to Camp for lunch (12:00 noon).

If you haven’t been to Camp Yocona in the last few years, you will be quite surprised.

A formal letter of intivation will be placed on this site in the next week or so. I hope you cna come.

How To Grow Our Membership

How can we grow the membership of EagleScoutNetwork.com. This could be a very important resoruce for Scouting but we need to identify every Eagle in the Yocona Area Council. How an we identify and sign up Eagles?

First Annual Meeting on May 5, 2007

Our first annual meeting is being planned for Camp Yocona on May 5.  Details will come from the Tupelo office but please mark your calendar.

This will be a get acquainted meeting and a chance for EagleScoutNetwork to organize.  If you have thoughts on what we might put on an informal agenda, please share on this blog.

What can EagleScoutNetwork do for Scouting?

As we form this new organization, please share ideas on how we can organize in local communities, and how we can support Scouting.

I would like to have a Chairman in each community who would seek out other Eagles to get them to go to the weg site and sign-in, then we can build a stronger organization. With a local Chairman, we can then provide ready access to resources, such as older Eagles who will visit with younger Scouts, help with projects or assist in other ways.  A local Chairman could help organize and be the contact point for local assistance for Scouts.

If there are any volunteers out there who would like to be a local Chairman, please send me an e-mail at ed@oxpub.com.

So that is my idea, how about your idea?

Letter from Brian Steger

FROM: BRIAN L. STEGER, SCOUT EXECUTIVE

DATE: FEBRUARY 27, 2007

Gentlemen:

Thank you for responding to the “call” and registering on the newly created Eagle Scout Network. Welcome to a new chapter of Scouting for the Yocona Area Council.

Congratulations to you again on your attainment of Scouting’s highest honor – the Rank of Eagle Scout! I am sure that you have some great memories of past adventures and wonderful tales to share.

It is my sincerest hope that you will consider becoming more involved in the programs of your community and help others to know the fun and adventure that is available for them in Scouting.

Since the first of this year, we have had some 300 Eagle Scouts respond to the website. What a response! What’s next?

In the next month or so, you will receive an invitation to a gathering of those who responded to the website. It is our hope that we will generate significant interest in getting other Eagle Scouts to join and attend this function.

If you are not already involved and do not want to wait, please feel free to contact me at the Scout Service Center in Tupelo. The phone number is 662-842-2871. My email address is bsteger@bsamail.org.

“Be Prepared” for my next letter.

Good old days!

Do you remember the good times you had in Scouting? I loved summer camp and anything outdoor. How about you?
